Tree Pruning and Removal
SDG&E’s Tree Safety Program keeps vegetation clear of power lines and certain power poles for safety and compliance with certain rules and regulations. SDG&E and tree pruning contractors work together to prune trees on an annual schedule.
The process includes:
Pre-inspection of vegetation near overhead power lines and certain power poles
Tree pruning and removal
Quality assurance auditing.
SDG&E maintains a database that tracks an inventory of approximately 420,000 trees within the service territory. The entire service area is divided into 133 vegetation management areas (VMAs) and identified with a three-digit number identification.
